The Epigenetics Syndrome
You’ve certainly heard about DNA or genetics. It’s the scientific explanation for traits that are shared with members of your family and other humans. It’s called “The Genome Project”. The project ended in 2003.*
There was one problem: there was lots of “genetic stuff” left over after the genome was identified. Researchers concluded it was the inconsequential “trash”.

The Epigenome dynamically responds to the environment by changing DNA. Epigenetics is the mechanism that allows the body to adapt to the environment by regulating genetic expression to adapt for:
- Diet (everything you eat, drink, breathe and/or rub on your body)
- Stress
- Behavior (Sleep, Smoking, Alcohol, etc.)
- Toxins (air, water, household cleaners, food additives and others; including medications)
- Exercise (too much or too little)
Are You Confused?
Think about the Epigenome working like your television:
The television set is the Genome (Your DNA).
The remote for the TV has buttons that turn it on/off; and others that control how much or little volume, tint, contrast, etc. That’s the Epigenome – above the genome.
One set of epigenetic instruction – Methyl Groups – turns genes on and off and the other epigenetic instruction – Histone Groups – control how much.

It would be nice if there was a pill. But, don’t hold your breathe. Research is underway, but it’s just beginning and, when you consider what the Epigenome does, it’s not likely that researchers will provide a suitable answer that stops adaptation.
Here’s the Good News:
The Epigenome can turn off the changes it makes as easily as it turns them on – if you regulate the environmental factors – stress, diet, behaviors and toxin – when you change the things you do.

In case you need a refresher about genetics: The Human Genome Project (HGP) was one of the great undertakings of our time. It was an international research effort to sequence and map all of the genes – together known as the genome – of members of our species, Homo sapiens.
Completed in April 2003, the HGP gave us:
